Neo-Primitive Fiddle Music in the Park

I've neglected my report on the weekend and the list of notable elements is lengthening so I'll try to be concise and relay the interesting parts in list form:

Saturday

  • Jesse's pretty lame company picnic
  • Dinner from The Ale House
  • The Horse Flies at Taughannock Falls State Park. These guys were really great. Their style is kind of hard to describe but they were modern-y, trance-y, folk rock fiddle music. That probably tells you nothing but I'm not sophisticated enough about music and describing music to explain more accurately. They were really fun and personable. We drank some beer and took it easy for a couple of hours; we were lucky and didn't have any rain. Perhaps someday before the end of the summer, someone we invite to accompany us will not only agree to join us but will actually join us.

Sunday

We had a picnic with my family for my parent's 29th wedding anniversary. It was at The Hickories park in Owego. Its pretty modest but also pretty pretty and is right on the Susquehanna River.
We ate a lot (our contributions: close-roasted pork with ancho, cinnamon and cocoa; minted quinoa salad with pine nuts; yogurt and mint cucumber salad and homemade sangria), drank a lot and played a lot. Lots of fun. More pictures here.
