Speaking of Stupid Americans....

Sarah Palin, Friday:

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil.

Sarah Palin, Sunday:

There are many disturbing details in the current bill that Washington is trying to rush through Congress, but we must stick to a discussion of the issues and not get sidetracked by tactics that can be accused of leading to intimidation or harassment.

Do It, Andrew Sullivan

Andrew Sullivan on Palin:
Can we all be grown up for a minute and concede something very simple? There are three explanations for the latest circus act: either Sarah Palin is so crazy she actually believes that what she just did is good for her political career; she has decided that her future is as a celebreality star and she's pursuing the lucrative Coulter-style, long legs and fascist farrago strategy; or, a scandal of monumental proportions is about to hit.
That's the stuff.

Its a Boy!

From The Huffington Post:

People magazine reports that Bristol Palin, daughter of the Alaska governor, has given birth to a baby son:

Bristol Palin, the 18-year-old daughter of former Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, gave birth on Sunday to a healthy 7 lb., 4 oz., baby boy in Palmer, Alaska.

"We think it's wonderful," said Colleen Jones, the sister of Bristol's grandmother Sally Heath, who confirmed the news. "The baby is fine and Bristol is doing well. Everyone is excited."

The baby's name is Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, according to Jones.

The baby's father, Levi Johnston, is training to be an electrician. Bristol is taking correspondence courses to obtain her high school diploma. The couple has been together for three years.

See photos of Johnston and Palin here. Johnston's mother was recently arrested on drug charges.

With Mikus' assistance, I've been using parts of my Christmas trip to scare my mother-in-law with my ideas (some real, most ridiculous and suggested to drive her a little crazy) for potential names for our offspring. Tripp Easton Mitchell, although obviously the work of a Palin, seems nearly run of the mill compared to Beatbox Cayenne Dustbunny for a baby boy and Errand Fennel Gherkin for a little girl.

Tina Fey on Sarah Palin: Not Since "Sling Blade" Has There Been a Voice Like Hers

I'm a couple of days late with this clip of Tina Fey talking to Letterman about doing Sarah Palin. You know I love Tina Fey; Tina Fey doing Palin is utter bliss. Check out this clip of Fey on Friday's Letterman.

via Defamer

What He Said

Dan Savage:
Why didn’t NBC insist on Palin sitting down for a real, substantive interview—or, better still, calling a full press conference—as a condition of Palin appearing on SNL tonight? Candidates don’t go on Letterman, Leno, SNL, The Daily Show, et al, to take a break from the campaign trail. Comedy programs are stops on the campaign trail. Palin is running from the press, refusing to answer any questions, lying her ass off on the stump, and attacking the people who could call her on those lies—reporters, news anchors, cable news networks—at her rallies. So why the fuck should NBC allow Palin to reap the political rewards of an appearance on SNL if Palin isn’t willing (or able) to answer questions from NBC news reporters?
And now, ladies and gentlemen, Sarah Palin/Tina Fey/Sarah Palin:

What He Said

Is anyone else experiencing some mild to moderate trepidation?

From The New Yorker's George Packer (emphasis is mine):

A number of people are afraid that the ugly tactics of the McCain-Palin campaign are going to incite violence, maybe assassination. Joe Klein, Andrew Sullivan, McCain’s former adviser John Weaver—even the ultimate sober-sided moderate David Gergen last night on CNN. I hope they’re wrong. It’s a big leap from hateful talking points and shouted epithets to vigilantism and the lone gunman. What’s undeniably true is that Republican rallies and the incendiary language of party leaders are stirring up the darker, destructive mob passions that have a long history in American politics. At the very least, the Republican ticket is making sure that, if Obama wins, he’ll be regarded as an illegitimate and dangerous President by thirty or forty per cent of the country.

Palin is too shallow to understand the weapon she’s playing with; she’s just thrilled to be the birthday girl and the object of so much semi-erotic devotion. But McCain knows better....

Furthermore, not only does he know better, McCain is now attempting to control the wild, blood-thirsty beast he has created.

Will Someone Please Get This Man Some Answers?

Weeks ago, I mentioned Sarah Palin's bizarre behavior during her pregnancy with Trig: she hid the pregnancy for five months, insisted on giving the keynote address at the Republican Governor's Convention in Texas despite leaking amniotic fluid, decided against being admitted into a Texas hospital; instead, she flew home to Alaska and subsequently drove 45 minutes to the Wasilla hospital t0 give birth to Trig. Weird, right?

No one has said much about her weird behavior in the recent weeks but Andrew Sullivan is still asking for answers:

Back in her time as a Christianist culture warrior in Wasilla, Alaska, Sarah Palin demanded total transparency from her moderate Republican opponent:

Within a few months, Palin was officially challenging Stein and exploiting the cultural shift masterfully. She welcomed a national anti-abortion group in to carpet bomb Wasilla with pink postcards affirming her pro-life bona fides. She orchestrated an NRA endorsement and a mailing from the group falsely proclaiming Stein, a lifelong hunter, "anti-gun." (Stein complained to the local newspaper that Palin was telling voters he wanted to "melt down" all the firearms in the state.) And, in a move practically out of Karl Rove's playbook, she dwelled on how Stein's wife used her maiden name, going so far as to demand a marriage certificate as proof of their nuptials. Palin's campaign literature proclaimed her "deeply devoted to conservative family values"--all in the context of an ostensibly nonpartisan election. (Stein himself was a moderate Republican.)

So it is part of Palin's record to demand the marriage license of a fellow Republican, but to ask for any medical confirmation of the mysterious birth of Trig earlier this year, any affidavit from the obstetrician, any objective evidence at all that Trig is indeed Sarah Palin's biological child is, well, in the words of John Podhoretz, "virtually unspeakable." Look: this is usually not hard at all. Births are recorded at the hospitals where they occur. And, as you might expect, there's a long list of babies born at Mat-Su Medical center, where we are told Trig was born on April 18 this year. But for some reason, Trig Palin's name is not among them.

Why would a hospital exhaustively record all births on their premises and leave out easily the most famous baby ever born there? There were only 24 births at Mat-Su in April of this year: it's not like they could have mislaid one. So why is there no formal record of Trig's birth? This is not an "unspeakable" question. It's a simple factual one. Presumably there's an explanation. Perhaps the Palins decided that it would be an invasion of Trig's privacy to have the birth actually recorded in the hospital where he was born. But at least they should be able to tell us that. Or perhaps the hospital decided for some reason not to record that one birth. I have no idea. I do know that if Sarah Palin were running against Sarah Palin, she would demand evidence, as she did with something just as accessible with respect to John Stein's marriage license.

How much longer are we supposed to put up with the far right running on different standards than everyone else? Hand over all the medical records and put Sarah Palin in front of a press conference now. We need answers to an almost dizzyingly long list of questions and accountability for an equally long list of public lies.

Boo

I didn't win Palin Bingo. Even if she said "spending" and/or "job creation," which I'm sure she did (J disagrees), I still wouldn't have won.

What He Said

From Slog:

This—the Bristol and Levi wedding registry—has to be a joke.

But then, this whole Palinightmare has to be a joke. Right? RIGHT?!?

(Regardless, I celebrate the "operation camo full bedskirt.")

Their JCPenney registry is hilarious and is complete with a camo diaper bag, American Flag Wall Art, and a meat grinder. According to the registry, the wedding date is November 4, Election Day! It'll be a busy day in the Palin household.

In My Secret Life

I smile when I'm angry.
I cheat and I lie.
I do what I have to do
To get by.
-"In My Secret Life," Leonard Cohen

Hers:
Today we hear that Palin has requested, and received, a four day extension for the disclosure of her personal finances. The new release date for these forms? October 3rd, the day AFTER her scheduled debate with Joe Biden.

His:
So it’s rather surprising that as the general election hits the homestretch, the McCain campaign has effectively squashed efforts by journalists, medical experts and the political class to fully examine his medical records.

The most recent review of McCain’s records cannot be described as independent or thorough. In May, the campaign gave a limited group of reporters only three hours to review thousands of documents. Aside from the time limit, the selected reporters were “ensconced” in a cone of silence, as CNN reported. The campaign banned the use of cell phones or e-mail for journalists, who might have consulted with experts while assessing the medical information. It’s not clear why so many news outlets consented to such terms.

This news ires me to no end. What, do you suppose, still lurks in their cache of deception? I'm scared to learn....

Naomi Klein: Palin = ‘Bush in Drag'; Andrew Sullivan: Palin is a Farce

This clip is from the September 19 episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. Klein's point about Palin=Bush because [Palin] "has a certainty [about issues] that is completely incommensurate with any knowledge or experience" is entirely accurate. And if you think I hate Sarah Palin, wait until you hear what Andrew Sullivan has to say.

Re: Palin Has Some Pretty Big Balls

See the video here.

Palin Has Some Pretty Big Balls

I'm watching her speak to the irresponsible, short-sighted McCain/Palin supporters in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She just said that the "Palin/McCain administration" will change the economy (which is interesting since McCain believes that "the fundamentals of our economy are strong,"why does he want to change it? But that's another story). Palin/McCain?! Really? I wonder if McCain has been told that he's now second on the ticket.

Krinkle Bearcat Palin

would be my name if Sarah Palin was my mom. Use the Sarah Palin Baby Name Generator and post yours in the comments. My dad-in-law, Lloyd, would be Slap Spear Palin which is hilarious.

Thanks, Bungy.

UPDATE: If I use Lisa Cabral instead of Lisa, my name is Meat Notgay. Umm.... I need to get Dan Savage on the phone for his take on this one.
