We had a really nice, fun Father's Day at the Mastroberti Household. The weather was beautiful, clear and not too hot. We invited our new friends and neighbors, Emily and Phil and their Pomeranian puppy, Nikko. It was really nice to introduce our new friends to my family and, of course, everyone loved little Nikko.
Even Herbie seemed to be happy to have this young, energetic curiosity dashing around the yard.
As is standard fair at a Mastroberti event, the food was bountiful and delicious. We ate a succulent pork shoulder rubbed with cocoa powder, cinnamon, sugar, salt and ancho chili powder and then roasted. We also had Dad's terrific coleslaw and potato salad, Emily's macaroni salad and Eric and Tiffany's green salad (fresh from the CSA!) with homemade strawberry vinagrette. We finished the meal with strawberry shortcake baked that morning and fresh orange whipped cream. The afternoon was really relaxing and low key and it was nice to visit everyone and bid Eric farewell since he is heading to Alaska for a month and is leaving on Friday.
Sadly, we didn't take any pictures but here is a picture from Father's Day 2007 at Watkins Glen State Park. My sibs and I had Dad-related temporary tattoos.
